Nature’s greatest example of alchemy is at work as green leaves turn gold and fall on a gentle bed of brown pine needles. Do leaves feel bitter that trees drop them so easily? Certainly there is an elemental change in the air; a strange melancholy in the misty mornings and early sunsets that wasn’t there before.
