If you still haven’t seen American Hustle (2013), the opening shot of Irving (played by a husky, but surprisingly not completely unappealing Christian Bale) fixing a hair piece over his balding head will be enough to pull you in for the rest of the movie. Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence and Bale all exude an amazing on-screen chemistry perfectly capturing the zeitgeist of the 70’s in America.
While the entire movie is definitely entertaining and worth watching, our favorite scene comes within the first few minutes of the movie when we learn how Sydney (Amy Adams) and Irving team up. The scene is a pool party complete with Duke Ellington records, hoop earrings, and Christian Bale’s belly. Irving puts on a record for Sydney and as it spins her foot taps to the sounds in none other than a pair of Kork-Ease Bette wedges.
Our timeless Bette wedge in all cork composition was a staple of 70’s footwear. After all, that was the exact shoe that stood in line at Studio 54. And that is the exact shoe from which our business grew. Today, this shoe continues to remain top of the summer shoe shopping list thanks to a neutral tone, an earthy-feel, a classic silhouette and incredible comfort. Cork goes with everything: It matches brights, it works with neutrals, and it can be worn with any pattern. It’s the perfect warm weather shoe.
Currently we have the Ava in natural cork available at a 3 1/4″ wedge, a sizable platform and supremely cushioned foot bed. Channel your inner seventies Sydney in a pair of Kork-Ease Ava wedges and a crochet one piece from Free People.
